On December 1st, Indian River State College in Ft. Pierce hosted their annual DECA Bazaar. This juried craft extravaganza is the epitome of shopping local and each table featured unique, handcrafted items from Treasure Coast artisans. 🙂 A booth of painted African gourds was among the most spectacular:

Until next time!

These are fantastic! 🙂
Kenley
Aren’t they the craziest things!? 40.00! (was a bit out of my budget, but I understand why they’d be priced fairly high!)
These are amazing. I’ve never seen gourds painted up as Santa and snowmen, they’re very gnomish looking too. I like these alot. Thanks for posting them, they made me smile. 🙂
I had a feeling you’d go for these! I sense a new craft project coming on…..
🙂
These are very cool!
Hi Gracie,
I thought so, too. I was impressed by the size of the gourds as well….never saw that variety before!
these are just magic!
Since seeing these Santas last weekend, I’ve googled “gourd art”; so many crafters are making all kinds of gourd ornaments. 🙂 I had NO idea!
These are out of this world… impressive…
First time I’d ever run across a gourd of that size….I didn’t know that variety existed!
It is a very long time since Father x/mas visited Africa. Just think they look odd, like a Ming vase embellished with a picture of London bridge. They just don’t look authentic. But very colorful and fun.
Hello!
I didn’t think they were real, honestly. I asked the woman (who must get the question alot!) and she produced an unpainted real fruit for me to examine.
🙂 got a good chuckle out of your Ming Vase comment….LOL hadn’t thought of it that way!
I love seeing the creative genius of others! It’s fantastic.
I hear you! I’m as far from crafty as a person can get. Anyone that can make something unique and interesting has ALL my respect.
This was fun to see. My mother paints this type of gourd. Hers are incredibly detailed.
I’m not sure where ours originated, but my husband and I picked up a painted Santa gourd years ago! It’s on a table for the rest of the month. 🙂
I guess people have been decorating gourds that way for quite some time, ESP in the Carolinas…(I’ve been doing some googling)
Love the Christmas theme gourds. Perfect for the holiday season. Fun, exciting, colorful.
