Check out these crazy clouds forming off Jaycee Beach. (Photos taken 3mins apart at 12:30pm, 8/15/14)
As the storm coalesced and the rain began, it looked a lot like a nuclear mushroom cloud. We made it off the beach just as it REALLY started coming down!

Great photos. I remember the sudden rains at the beach when we used to go many many years ago.
The mushroom cloud has a bit of an ominous air to it, considering what mushroom clouds usually are equated with.
Even so, I’d still love to be at the beach there. 🙂
This week the weather’s been less unsettled and very conducive to beachgoing.. The water in summer is between 82-85degrees so we spend a great deal of time getting wet! 🙂
Hi Karen! I am missing the beach! It’s beautiful there. You can really see the rain on the horizon!
When I first moved down here I was so surprised by those rain sheets along the horizon. Actually, I was surprised by just seeing the horizon every day. LOL Living in cities you don’t ever see much “horizon”–too many structures in the way!
We don’t see it here either. Too many trees but I shouldn’t complain. But we can’t ever see a sunrise of sunset!
Whoa. I think I’d pack up my hamper if I saw that coming.
Wow! That was an amazing sight. I have always enjoyed watching cloud formations .I liked the two photos together, as they told the story well, with the people beginning to flee the mushroom cloud!
Whoaa. Looks like heavy rain is about to hit hard!
That is a scary cloud formation. Sorry that it shortened you beach adventure. I have moments like that in Galveston Beach although during my recent trip in the Philippines, I let the kids play under the rain at the beach for a few minutes. A once in lifetime childhood experience. There was no thunder and lighting of course. Great pics my friend.
We had this yesterday. Dark clouds, storm and rain 🙂 Storms are getting more severe lately.
